Last November, SMART launched the first and only unlimited BlackBerry plans in the country. Finally, almost a month after SMART’s launch of the unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service (Prepaid BIS) Globe launched a similar service – the Globe BlackBerry Prepaid.
Globe has been offering BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits since the 3rd quarter of 2009 but they didn’t offer prepaid BlackBerry service then. So, the hundreds of BlackBerry prepaid phone kits sold were pretty useless, in my opinion, due to the absence of BlackBerry Internet Service, which was only available to postpaid subscribers then.
This development is great since those who’ve purchased BlackBerry 8520 prepaid phone kits from Globe need not to subscribe to a postpaid line in order to activate the BlackBerry Internet Service. They simply need to load credits into their prepaid SIM and register for the Unlimited BlackBerry Prepaid Service, which is easy as sending an SMS.

To use the BlackBerry APN exclusively for all data traffic (applies to Globe and SMART subscribers), go to your OPTIONS > ADVANCED OPTIONS > TCP/IP > Uncheck APN Settings Enabled.
How’s Globe’s 3G/HSDPA reception in your area? I live in Caloocan City and my phone rarely gets 3G signal. It’s usually EDGE or just GPRS.
