The storied Manila Metropolitan Cathedral in Intramuros reopened its doors once again to the public on April 9th just in time for the Holy Week.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the archbishop of Manila, led a Mass to mark the reopening of the cathedral dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary. President Benigno Aquino and other government officials attended the event.

Tagle ordered the closure of the cathedral in February 2012 after an evaluation revealed that the cathedral has several structural integrity issues. The extensive repairs done, which lasted for two years, amounted to P120 million.
The first church was built in 1581 and has been reconstructed at least eight times in the past.
