¡Hola día de la juventud del mundo Madrid 2011!

One of my goals for 2008 is to attend World Youth 2008. Despite the efforts I exerted to be able to attend WYD 2008, I failed. Maybe it’s God’s plan. Well, I’m only 17 years old and I’m not yet allowed to travel alone. In addition, traveling to Sydney is just plain expensive! I don’t want my family to be in great debt just to have one of my goals achieved.

So, I gave up. No World Youth 2008 for me. No Pope for me. No Sydney for me.

I was depressed. In fact whenever I would hear any news mentioning World Youth Day, I would feel sad and would change channels immediately. But I came back to my senses and started to watch EWTN’s coverage of the World Youth Day during the Final Mass celebrated by none other than Pope Benedict XVI. It is where he announced that the next World Youth Day would be in 2011 and would take place in Madrid, Spain.

This time, I promise to myself that I would make it! In fact, I’ll be coming up with my own WYD 2011 blog in a matter of days or weeks. I’ll be saving up and would be starting to look for sponsors this early!

Maybe that’s why I’ve been meaning to learn Spanish. Maybe it’s God’s plan. See, God moves in mysterious ways (or is it love?). He wanted me to learn Spanish to by that I would attend the WYD in Madrid I won’t feel alienated.

Hello, World Youth Day 2011! Hello, Pope! Hello, Madrid!

Should I Buy A Dedicated Server?

Plans, Thought Cloud 2 Comments

For the past few days, I’ve been thinking of buying myself a dedicated server. First, I got a lot of websites to host and maintain. I just feel that the shared environment is not enough for me. Actually, I just filed a ticket reporting an abuse on the shared server I’m hosted on because the CPU use is above normal, which made my sites load slowly. I got my reseller right now and I’m hosting a couple of websites and blogs. I think I host more 10 websites (excluding this one).

Aside of hosting the websites I own, I’m also planning to get serious with my hosting business, BrinkNotes Hosting. I would be staying at home more often than before for I’m studying at UP Open University in distance education mode. Getting serious with my hosting business would also give a little income to be able to support myself.

I really want a dedicated server. But there are several things I need to consider before buying a dedicated server.

MONEY. My first concern in buying a dedicated server is where to get the money to pay for the monthly expenses of the server. The dedicated server would cost me around $95 (approx. Php 4,000) per month. The monthly fee includes the prices of the upgrades I want on my dedicated server like additional hard drive for back-ups, additional bandwidth and additional RAM. I told my mom about it and I think she’s interested on supporting a portion of the monthly expense. The monthly fee of a reseller plan is quite far from the monthly fee of a dedicated server. Where do I get that big amount of money?

SERVER LOAD. If ever I get a dedicated server, it would host all the websites I own or co-manage and the rest of the space would go to my future company. I am just worried if the dedicated server I would be buying can handle all the websites that I would be hosting in the future.

And other things I don’t include in here anymore.

The dedicated server I am playing to buy has the following specifications:

  • Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 80GB HDD
  • 1000GB Monthly Bandwidth

I think buying a Virtual Private Server is a great idea to test the waters. The thing about buying a VPS is that the allotted disk space and bandwidth is lower to that of a shared / reseller plan.

So that got me thinking! WHAT SHALL I DO?
