¡Hola día de la juventud del mundo Madrid 2011!

Plans, Thought Cloud, Whatnots 1 Comment

One of my goals for 2008 is to attend World Youth 2008. Despite the efforts I exerted to be able to attend WYD 2008, I failed. Maybe it’s God’s plan. Well, I’m only 17 years old and I’m not yet allowed to travel alone. In addition, traveling to Sydney is just plain expensive! I don’t want my family to be in great debt just to have one of my goals achieved.

So, I gave up. No World Youth 2008 for me. No Pope for me. No Sydney for me.

I was depressed. In fact whenever I would hear any news mentioning World Youth Day, I would feel sad and would change channels immediately. But I came back to my senses and started to watch EWTN’s coverage of the World Youth Day during the Final Mass celebrated by none other than Pope Benedict XVI. It is where he announced that the next World Youth Day would be in 2011 and would take place in Madrid, Spain.

This time, I promise to myself that I would make it! In fact, I’ll be coming up with my own WYD 2011 blog in a matter of days or weeks. I’ll be saving up and would be starting to look for sponsors this early!

Maybe that’s why I’ve been meaning to learn Spanish. Maybe it’s God’s plan. See, God moves in mysterious ways (or is it love?). He wanted me to learn Spanish to by that I would attend the WYD in Madrid I won’t feel alienated.

Hello, World Youth Day 2011! Hello, Pope! Hello, Madrid!

Listening to radio - too old fashioned?

Thought Cloud, Whatnots 1 Comment

Is listening to FM Radio too old-fashioned? I’m a fan of FM Radio during my younger years (10 to around 14 years old). I love listening to different FM Radio Stations – Wave, Magic, RT, Kool and Campus to name a few. In fact, there was a point in my life that I dreamt of being a radio DJ. I even operated my own Internet radio station before. I would call radio stations or drop a line on their messengers to request for songs and even greet my friends. Funny really! But in today’s context, do we still listen to FM Radio stations? I know that there are a lot of mp3 players and other portable media players available in the market today. Why bother wait for the DJ to play your requested song when you can just fiddle with your iPod and select the track you want? Why struggle to get into the busy lines of these radio stations just to request for a song? I know.

I was busy plurking and one of my plurk buddies is a DJ for a local radio station. I got curious and decided to listen to his radio show. His Plurk buddies would post requests and he would play the songs eventually. So, I did the same and lucky, he played the songs I requested. Right now I’m listening to his radio show and waiting for my third request this morning. I requested for Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. His show today plays the music of the past and the not-so distant past (mostly from the 90s and the early 2000s). Awhile ago, I also requested for a song by Westlife and S Club 7 and all of them where played. Hearing your name and your requested song makes me happy.

Sometimes, it’s great to go back down the memory lane and do things as it was just like listening to the radio. Being an FM Radio station fan when I was young, it was great listening to an FM radio station again. As I end this post, I’m now listening to my last request for today which Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. Thanks, Mr. DJ!

Should I Buy A Dedicated Server?

Plans, Thought Cloud 2 Comments

For the past few days, I’ve been thinking of buying myself a dedicated server. First, I got a lot of websites to host and maintain. I just feel that the shared environment is not enough for me. Actually, I just filed a ticket reporting an abuse on the shared server I’m hosted on because the CPU use is above normal, which made my sites load slowly. I got my reseller right now and I’m hosting a couple of websites and blogs. I think I host more 10 websites (excluding this one).

Aside of hosting the websites I own, I’m also planning to get serious with my hosting business, BrinkNotes Hosting. I would be staying at home more often than before for I’m studying at UP Open University in distance education mode. Getting serious with my hosting business would also give a little income to be able to support myself.

I really want a dedicated server. But there are several things I need to consider before buying a dedicated server.

MONEY. My first concern in buying a dedicated server is where to get the money to pay for the monthly expenses of the server. The dedicated server would cost me around $95 (approx. Php 4,000) per month. The monthly fee includes the prices of the upgrades I want on my dedicated server like additional hard drive for back-ups, additional bandwidth and additional RAM. I told my mom about it and I think she’s interested on supporting a portion of the monthly expense. The monthly fee of a reseller plan is quite far from the monthly fee of a dedicated server. Where do I get that big amount of money?

SERVER LOAD. If ever I get a dedicated server, it would host all the websites I own or co-manage and the rest of the space would go to my future company. I am just worried if the dedicated server I would be buying can handle all the websites that I would be hosting in the future.

And other things I don’t include in here anymore.

The dedicated server I am playing to buy has the following specifications:

  • Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 80GB HDD
  • 1000GB Monthly Bandwidth

I think buying a Virtual Private Server is a great idea to test the waters. The thing about buying a VPS is that the allotted disk space and bandwidth is lower to that of a shared / reseller plan.

So that got me thinking! WHAT SHALL I DO?

Just an update!

I know how much I neglected this blog. I do know that the previous blog posts are very amateur. I’ll be cleaning up this blog and make in into my real personal blog. I’m quite depressed that the page rank of my main blog become 0. JustJeric.com is the only blog I managed which is not hosted on my reseller account although this hosting account is under the same company. I bought this hosting account for only $12 a year. I’ll be moving this site on my reseller once the expiration date of this hosting account nears.

I’ve got a lot of pending blogs to open so please do watch out for that! One of the blogs that I’ll be opening in the future is a group blog which is open for contributors (which could be you!). So, I’m very much into this problogging thing. Recently, I opened a blog dedicated to Kim Chiu. On the other hand, the official website of Toni Gonzaga is now updated. ToniGonzaga.net will be demoted into an unofficial website of Toni Gonzaga within next month as I resigned as a webmaster already. I turned over the responsibilities as a webmaster to a group of people who can dedicate much time in updating the site. Apparently, they decided to change the domain. Hence, I’ll be keeping ToniGonzaga.net because in the first place, I own the domain. When that happens, I’ll still keep the site up as a fan blog for Toni Gonzaga. They want the dot com but the price when I last inquired amounts to more than $1500. So, instead of buying the S1500 domain why not settle for the next best thing which is the dot net?

I’m currently trying WordPress MU. I’m still thinking if I would migrate my self-hosted WordPress blogs into WordPress MU for easy management as I own a lot of blogs (a lot more will come). I’m thinking of launching my own blog network as I got a lot of blogs already. To date, I own and maintain 8 blogs and as I’ve said a lot will still come in the near future.

So, I guess that would all for now. See you around the net!

The Downside of Owning an iPhone at 16

Thought Cloud 2 Comments

Yesterday, I bought myself (yes, with my own money) an iPhone (16gb) as a graduation gift. I’m very much happy with it. I unlocked, activated and jailbroken my iPhone last night and now it’s fully functional. I’m very much contented with it. At the moment, I don’t know what to do with my Starbucks Planner as the iCal application of the iPhone serves as my planner already.

So you may ask, “what’s with the post title?”

I posted about my iPhone on my main blog with a picture. I limited my post to 3 sentences or less to avoid people labeling me as “boastful” and whatsoever. So now, the World Wide Web knows that I have an iPhone. But every good thing has its bad side, just like owning an iPhone at this very young age.

Why?

People may label you as boastful, pretentious and whatnot. Who will own an iPhone at 16? Aside from that, people will question if your unit is really an iPhone or just an iPod Touch with the appearance of an iPhone. I admit that at the very first my wish is to have an iPod Touch and make it look like an iPhone. But I didn’t settle with an iPod Touch instead, I buy myself an iPhone. I know that the iPhone is ONLY available in the USA and some parts of Europe –and we all know that I’m in the Philippines therefore iPhone is not available here. But thank you to the Internet and those nice people who brought iPhones here in a discreet way. In fact, it is no doubt that a lot of Filipinos own an iPhone nowadays with the birth of iFonePH and Applei community.

Another thing is that people will start questioning the originality of your iPhone. Yes, iPhone is not available here but there are MANY ways on how to have one in the Philippines (check the previous paragraph). It is no doubt that China clones of latest gadgets (iPod, iPhone, and other branded gadgets) are hot items here in the Philippines and you could buy them almost everywhere. It is a bit hard to explain to these people that my iPhone is original and manufactured by iPhone. The only difference is that I unlocked it, activate it and jailbroken it to be able to use with the local networks here (Globe, Sun, Smart) which is hard to explain to not technically inclined people.

Plus, people would question if the iPhone is really mine or am I just borrowing it from my parents. Yes, it’s all me. This iPhone doesn’t belong to my parents or my sibling. I bought it with my own money – thanks to freelance work and blogging.

Thank God, for finally, I have my dream phone – the iPhone.

BORING!

Rants, Thought Cloud No Comments

Can you stop being childish? Cause it irritates me, you know! You were the one who told me that everything is fine between us. But, hey! Look at our situation. I greeted you on your birthday and I didn’t get any reply. How was that? Can you please help me understand you? Cause you keep saying this and that but you’re not living up to it.

Duh. Get a life! I won’t talk to you anymore faggot!

‘Cause you make me poetic

Poem, Thought Cloud No Comments

One day I feel sick
And yet I still paid a wink
To that person in yellow
Who makes my heart mellow

You changed your way
But I still prayed you didn’t go away
For I am here to stay
Until my love reaches your way

I know it was a game
And now I feel so lame
How can a game be so real
That I thought it was a real deal

Right or wrong
I will be strong
For I still look forward being with you
From this day through
