My family and I celebrated the Easter weekend in Intramuros, Manila, and we spent our time there taking part in religious services at the Manila Cathedral and San Agustin Church. Booking a hotel room in the area sounded like a great idea because we wanted to enjoy Intramuros and avoid the hassle of traveling to and fro the area in the wee hours of the night.
Tourists wishing to stay in the area have two choices when it comes to hotel accommodation in this historic district—The Bayleaf Hotel and the White Knight Hotel. The Bayleaf Hotel is the popular choice for tourists staying in the area. But for this stay, I booked a suite room at White Knight Hotel as I was curious about what this relatively small hotel has to offer.
White Knight Hotel stands at the heart of Intramuros within the Plaza San Luis Complex. It is right next door of popular Intramuros destinations including Casa Manila and the San Agustin Church. The Manila Cathedral is about a five-minute walk away. This is primary reason why I chose to stay in this hotel. While it is centrally-located, one could easily miss this quaint hotel. The three-storey hotel easily blends well with its neighboring structures.
I booked a suite room at White Knight Hotel for Php 3,195.00 per night. I made the booking through Agoda.com. The suite room is White Knight Hotel’s largest room. Cheaper and smaller rooms are also available for as a low as Php 1,995.00 per night. The price may be pricey when compared to hotel rates in other Southeast Asia countries, but take note that this is the best deal that one could get in this particular part of the town. It is important to note that the hotel rate does not include free breakfast.
The spacious suite room looked exactly as it was described on the hotel’s website. The room has split-type air-conditioning unit, large windows overlooking the hotel’s alfresco dining area, queen-size bed, pillows and duvet, WiFi internet access, flat-screen TV with local and international channels, a large bathtub, mini-refrigerator with food and refreshments, and coffee and tea making facility.
I personally enjoyed the large windows and the view from our room. My sister liked the bathtub while mom loved the bed.
Staff and Service
Hotel staffers were helpful and friendly. The hotel did not look busy even though we checked in during a holiday. The bellboy was also very helpful when we arrived at the hotel. Check-in and check-out were both fast and hassle-free.
The hotel has a restaurant offering international and local cuisine, although food and service charges may be expensive for some. Guests may also check out nearby restaurants like Ristorante delle Mitre (across San Agustin Church) for better deals.
- Cheaper hotel rate as compared to competitor
- Spacious room with stable WiFi connection
- Attentive and proactive staff
Areas for Improvement
- Rooms are not soundproof
- Did not respond to my online query
Will I stay again in this hotel? Of course.
